Remember Anil Ahuja? After 18 years in private equity investing, the former head of 3i Asia decided in 2018 to launch an ed-tech startup to take on the $1.4bn tuition industry in Singapore. When he launched 88tuition in 2018, Anil took 10 months to reach the first 1,000 registered users. The same number of users signed up on a mere 10 days during COVID-19 lockdown in Singapore. And parents outside of Singapore from Philippines to Australia are also signing their kids up for the online classes that follows Singapore school curriculum. What's next for the 57 year old PE veteran turned startup-founder-CEO?

Anil Ahuja started investing in the early 90s, well before PE/VC became fashionable and previously led the Asian businesses of 3i Group plc and JP Morgan Partners. His 25 year investing experience spans stages, sectors, geographies, and asset classes.

In 2018, Anil founded 88tuition with a mission to "empower every Singaporean student achieve full potential" through supplementary online learning. The objective was to democratize tuition by making it accessible to every student, leveraging adaptive learning and video technology at less than 10% of the cost of traditional tuition.

During COVID school shutdown, 88tution has been offering live classes free of cost in Singapore, thanks to partnerships with People's Association, DBS Bank, SINDA, SAFRA and NTUC in Singapore."Working closely with underprivileged and troubled youth has been a humbling and gratifying experience."
