SVCA celebrates exceptional deal makers and fund raisers

October 10, 2018

On the 8th of October 2018, SVCA celebrated its 26th anniversary as an association representing the interests of the private equity & venture capital industry and lauded capable deal makers with the ninth iteration of the SVCA Annual Awards.

Attended by over 250 guests, the event was kicked off by Chairman Dr Thomas Lanyi with a welcome address highlighting past achievements and notable future projects. In addition to active engagement with the MAS influencing various initiatives and guidelines impacting the PE/VC industry, SVCA is also launching a starter kit for venture capital financing in partnership with the Singapore Academy of Law as well as a Southeast Asian benchmarking exercise in collaboration with Cambridge Associates.

Gerald Chiu, Partner at Dymon Asia Private Equity and winner of SVCA’s “Fund Raised of the Year” which successfully raised DAPE Fund II after only 7 months echoed industry’s sentiment that LPs typically do not view Southeast Asia as a “must-have” region unlike North America or China, thus a benchmark would facilitate fundraising in the region.

Nicholas Bloy, Co-Managing Partner at Navis Capital Partners, winner of “PE Deal of the Year” for its investment into Asia Inspection, a leading quality control and compliance services provider, expressed his thanks and promised to return to collect the “PE Exit of the Year” when he exits his deal. Thura Ko, Senior Advisor to TPG Capital Asia, which took home the “PE Exit of the Year” award for the sale of Myanmar Distillery (Myanmar’s largest producer of spirits), was thankful for the accolade from industry peers but cautioned against rushing into frontier markets which remain challenging.

In the spirit of giving, SVCA held a live charity auction featuring a signed guitar by Ed Sheeran, trips to exotic locations, and original art pieces by the talented students and alumni of Pathlight School. Proceeds from the auction went to the Autism Resource Center (Singapore), the parent of Pathlight School.

The SVCA congratulates all award winners, and thanks all participants, sponsors and donors for their unwavering support. This event would not be a success without you.
