SVCA Inaugural ESG Seminar

April 02, 2019

On 27 March 2019, SVCA held its inaugural ESG Seminar to initiate dialogue with Private Equity (PE) and Venture Capital (VC) practitioners about Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) values and how these can be incorporated into the entire investment cycle. The seminar was over-subscribed and well-received by attendees.

Dr. Thomas Lanyi, Chairman of the SVCA, kicked off the seminar by warmly welcoming all attendees and reaffirmed the association’s dedication to ESG values. Principles of Responsible Investment (PRI) presented available resources on adopting an informative and formal approach to ESG, which involved setting expectations and frameworks for efficient and effective ESG reporting while Environmental Resources Management (ERM) focused on ESG due diligence and led an interactive group discussion where participants shared their own experience in ESG integration.

The seminar wrapped up with a lively panel from IFC, Albourne Partners, Navis Capital and Quadria Capital where they shared both positive experiences and difficulties experienced during their own ESG journey. While panellists differed in their experiences, they agreed on the need for each firm to craft their own ESG framework in line with their Fund’s investment philosophy instead of adopting a “box ticking” mindset.

SVCA’s conference will be in the third quarter of 2019. Keep an eye out for more details!
