Breaking the glass ceiling has been a topical issue for women. Until now this debate was limited to the Boardroom, but has recently spilled over to other spheres, with the most prominent one being the private capital industry. Over the years, there are only a handful of women leaders within the private capital industry who have successfully been able to create a spot for themselves in yet another “Old Boys Club”.
Mentorship has been acknowledged as one of the most powerful tools driving professional success. In the case of women, mentorship can be a key success factor as they deal with workplaces largely dominated by men. The SVCA Mentorship Program aims to accelerate career growth for mid career women from the private capital investing ecosystem by connecting them with industry leaders for 1:1 mentoring over an initial period of twelve months. SVCA believes that this initiative will help create a deeper pipeline of female leaders for the industry, facilitating a much-required gender balance in leadership positions and shaping the future course of the industry.
SVCA held our first get-together to introduce the mentors and mentees. The event garnered positive feedback with participants getting to know each other over canapes and drinks. The mentees will be selecting their mentors and embarking on this year-long journey towards achieving their personal and career goals.
